Private group tour of the Santa Lucia Preserve, Carmel

a book signing of his newly published book, Paul Vincent Wiseman & The Wiseman Group: Inner Spaces. Always a sell-out, this annual fundraiser is an important event for our Chapter and just gets better every year.

In tours, we had many terrific opportunities to explore. First was the home of local architect and ICAA member Lucia Howard, one of the leading collectors of architectural souvenirs of the European Grand Tour of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. In September, a limited group of members went on an exclusive tour of the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel Valley. Members had a wonderful day viewing five spectacular homes created by leading architects and designers and enjoyed lunch at the Preserve’s Ranch Golf Club. November brought us a tour of 50 UN Plaza, Arthur Brown, Jr.’s last building completed for the Civic Center, the Federal Building. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, the Federal Building has been completely renovated, back to its Second Renaissance Revival splendor. Our group had the distinguished opportunity to be the first to tour this non-public, important landmark.

This year’s lectures wrapped up with two very unique offerings. Honored as one of the top international designers, Jean-Louis Deniot, spoke with support from Diane Dorrans Saeks to a sell-out audience about his work and their collaboration on this highly regarded first book, Jean-Louis Deniot: Interiors. Then, Mark A. Wilson, known primarily by our members as a writer on Bernard Maybeck, Julia Morgan and the Hearst family, presented an engaging lecture and book signing of his latest book, Frank Lloyd Wright on the West Coast.

The ICAA continues to offer education courses both nationally and locally. This allows us to further our mission, which is to promote and preserve the classical tradition in architecture and art. Our drawing courses and lectures are geared for all of our members, and no previous experience is required. Be on the lookout for class announcements, and consider taking advantage of next year’s education program.

I hope you will join me and the Board of Directors at the beautiful galleries of Foster Gwin Antiques where we will be honoring our members as well as our Annual Sponsors on December 11th for our Sponsor Appreciation and Holiday Party. We hope to see you there! As I close the end of my two year term as President, we will also be toasting our incoming Chapter President, architect Coburn Everdell. Please join us in congratulating Coby and giving him a warm welcome.

As we continue to plan our 2015 calendar, please check our website for newly announced "On the Boards" office tours, education classes and lectures, book signings and other first-class programming and events.
